Exposure adjustment in a mobile camera app lets you control the brightness of a photo by increasing or decreasing the amount of light entering the camera focal during the shooting process.
The goal is to help you when shooting cars in environment that are not ideal:
- Low light conditions (underground parking, for instance) — You can increase the quantity of light entering the camera focal. Example:
- Sunny conditions/overexposed environment: You can decrease the quantity of light entering the camera focal. Example:
This will not remove reflections but will mitigate the excess of light that makes the car paint too bright.
See how you can adjust brightness within the CC app:
After every shot, exposure level is reset at its normal level (it is the same with all native camera app). Indeed, for the same car, depending on where the light source is, you might need a totally different exposure level to get the perfect shot.
Exposure alerting
We have implemented in the CarCutter App a model able to detect if the car on an image is over or underexposed. This model only runs on the standard exterior shots.
If we detect an issue, we are pushing a message in the validation screen communicating about a potential lighting issue:
You can still ignore this alert and validate the image. This alert has to be seen as an information we want to provide: maybe the result for this very image will not be perfect due to this lighting issue.
In order to help you, we provide a “how to fix it?” button that you can click to get recommendations on how to solve the issue.
In some cases, the issue cannot be solved, so you can still accept the shot.
Also, if the alerting is considered as invasive, this can still be switched off from the Settings:
